There is a lot that goes into home maintenance and it’s easy to forget to do some things every now and then. We've organized a great home maintenance checklist so you know how often a task should be done. Use this reference guide to make sure your home is in tip-top shape, not just while you're living there, but also when the time comes to sell.

Monthly Tasks:

  • Clean range hood filters.

  • Clean and sanitize garbage disposal.

  • Test smoke detectors and carbon monoxide detectors.

  • Inspect and clean range hood fan.

  • Vacuum refrigerator coils.

  • Check and replace HVAC filters if necessary.

  • Check water softener.

  • Clean and descale faucets and showerheads.

  • Unclog drains.

Quarterly Tasks:

  • Check and clean dryer vent.

  • Check and seal tile grout in showers and tubs.

  • Inspect and repair caulking around sinks, tubs, and showers.

  • Lubricate garage door tracks and hinges.

  • Inspect and repair weather stripping on doors and windows.

  • Test and replace batteries in smoke detectors and carbon monoxide detectors.

  • Check and clean kitchen exhaust fan.

Bi-annual Tasks:

  • Inspect roof for damage.

  • Check and seal exterior wood surfaces.

  • Clean windows and screens.

  • Clean and seal tile grout on floors.

  • Clean refrigerator coils.

  • Inspect your attic.

Annual Tasks:

  • Have heating and cooling systems professionally serviced.

  • Inspect and clean chimney and fireplace.

Being a homeowner can be a lot, but when you stay on top of the tasks on this list, you’ll have a lot less to worry about. Continuing to check on your exterior, appliances, heating and cooling, plumbing, security, and electrical systems will help prevent breakdowns, save money, and keep your home looking its best.
